Tips for being more productive in 2025

10 Ways to Have a More Productive 2025

Another year on the horizon, another chance to finally tackle that ever-growing to-do list. But this time, we're ditching the tired old "new year, new me" spiel. Instead, we're focusing on simple, actionable tips to boost your productivity and make 2025 your most efficient year yet. No need for a complete life overhaul, just a few tweaks here and there to help you become the productivity powerhouse you were always destined to be.

1. Organise Your Valuables (and Your Life!)

Ever noticed how a cluttered space seems to clutter your mind as well? It's not just you! Studies have shown that a disorganized environment can significantly impact your focus and productivity. A Princeton University study found that physical clutter competes for your attention, leading to decreased performance and increased stress. In fact, research suggests that people who describe their homes as "cluttered" are 77% more likely to be overweight and 73% more likely to be disorganised. That's a rather grim statistic, isn't it?

So, where do you start? Well, tackling those collections of valuables that are gathering dust is a great first step. Whether you're a watch aficionado, a coin collector, or a knife enthusiast, having a dedicated space for your prized possessions not only protects them but also clears your mind.

At Holme & Hadfield, we've got just the thing to help you get started:

Watch Boxes

If you've got a growing watch collection gathering dust and (cringe) getting scratched in a must drawer, you've got a problem. Luckily, we've created the perfect solution with our watch boxes! Crafted with quality materials and a sleek, modern design, they feature optional vegan leather padding to prevent scratches and keep your watches pristine. The acrylic lid allows you to admire your collection at a glance while the handy drawer acts as additional storage for your EDC gear. No more frantic searches for that missing watch strap or multi-tool! Plus if you plan on one day selling or handing down your watches to your kids or grandkids, keeping your watches safely stored in a watch box can actually boost your collection's value

Coin Display Cases

For the coin collectors or service people amongst us, our coin display cases offer the perfect way to showcase your collection. With acid-free materials and secure compartments, your coins will be protected from the elements and those pesky fingerprints. Plus, the elegant design adds a touch of sophistication to any room.

Knife Display Cases

Whether you're an outdoorsman or an avid collector, our knife display cases keep your blades safe, sharp, and easily accessible. The transparent lid allows for quick identification, while the drawer provides extra storage for sharpening tools and other accessories.

Investing in proper storage for your valuables is an investment in your productivity. With everything in its place, you can finally say goodbye to those frustrating "where did I put that?" moments and hello to a more focused and efficient you.

2. Time Blocking

Forget endless to-do lists that leave you feeling overwhelmed. Time blocking is where it's at in 2025. This technique involves scheduling specific blocks of time for different tasks, turning your day into a well-structured roadmap of bite-sized tasks. And it's not just us saying it's brilliant! A study by the University of California, Irvine, found that people who use time blocking are 40% more likely to achieve their goals. That's a rather significant improvement, wouldn't you say? By allocating dedicated time slots for specific tasks, you eliminate decision fatigue and create a sense of structure that keeps you on track.

3. The Two-Minute Rule

We all have those little tasks that linger on our to-do lists for days, even weeks. In fact, they're the ones that tend to jolt us out of your sleep in the middle of the night because, oops, we forgot to do them...again. The two-minute rule is here to banish them for good. If a task takes less than two minutes to complete, do it immediately. Answer that email, file that document, make that phone call (sorry fellow millennials). You'll be surprised how much you can accomplish by simply tackling those quick wins first.

Turns out, there's some proper science behind it. A study published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology found that completing even a minor task can trigger a cascade of positive emotions, leading to increased motivation and productivity throughout the day. It's like a domino effect for your brain, with each small victory fueling the next. Who knew tidying your desk or rearranging your nightstand organizer could be such a powerful productivity tool?

4. Stop Being a 'Yes' Man

No may be a small word, but it packs a powerful punch. Learning to say "no" to commitments that drain your time and energy is crucial for maintaining productivity. We know it's a tough one for the people pleasers amongst us but it's an important skill to master. Don't be afraid to politely decline requests that don't align with your goals or will drain you of your energy. Remember, every "no" frees up space for a "yes" to something that truly matters.

5. The Pomodoro Technique

Do you struggle with procrastination? We've all been there but if it gets the best of you more than not, it may be time ti give the Pomodoro technique a go. This time-management method involves working in 25-minute intervals with short breaks in between. It's like interval training for your brain, keeping you focused and preventing burnout. Plus, who doesn't love a good excuse for a tea break?

For folks with ADHD, this method can help you avoid hyper-focusing on a less important task and neglecting the other things on your to-do list. You may need to modify the method a bit because neurodivergent brains take a little longer to get back into focus mode, so you may find longer intervals or shorter breaks are necessary to optimize your work day.

6. Digital Detox

In today's hyper-connected world, it's easy to get sucked into the digital vortex. Schedule regular digital detoxes to disconnect from your devices and reconnect with yourself. You may even want to go so far as to banning devices after a certain time of day or avoid looking at your phone as you wake up. Instead, replace screen time with a walk, reading, meditating or simply enjoying some peace and quiet. Your brain (and your productivity) will thank you.

7. The Eisenhower Matrix

Not all tasks are created equal. Use the Eisenhower Matrix (also known as the Urgent-Important Matrix) to prioritize your tasks based on their urgency and importance. This helps you focus on the tasks that truly move the needle and delegate or eliminate the rest.

8. Don't Try to Do It All

You don't have to be Superman (or Superwoman, for that matter). Delegating tasks that can be handled by others frees up your time and allows you to focus on your strengths. Whether it's hiring a virtual assistant or asking a colleague for help, don't be afraid to share the workload. This is a lesson we've learnt as we've grown Holme & Hadfield. Instead of trying to be the marketing managers, accountants and customer support (along with the many other hats required to run a 6-figure business), we outsourced various roles to professionals. This meant those areas of the business we didn't want to focus on ourselves are now in expert hands and we can focus on the individual strengths we bring to the brand.

9. Batch Similar Tasks

Grouping similar tasks together and tackling them in one go can significantly boost your efficiency. Instead of switching between different types of work, dedicate specific blocks of time to answering emails, making phone calls, or writing content. Jumping between vastly different tasks may require you to use different areas of the brain, leading to fatigue, overwhelm and agitation. Your brain will appreciate the consistency and reward you with better quality work, often completed in a shorter timeframe.

10. Celebrate Your Wins

We so often tend to focus on what's going wrong, rather than all the things going right. Make a promise to yourself to acknowledge your accomplishments in 2025, no matter how small. Celebrating your wins boosts your motivation and keeps you on track towards your goals. So go ahead, pat yourself on the back, treat yourself to something nice, or simply take a moment to appreciate how far you've come.

There you have it! Ten practical tips to help you conquer your goals and make 2025 your most productive year yet. Now, go forth and conquer! (But first, maybe organize that drawer full of miscellaneous "stuff" that's been bothering you for months...we've got the display cases for the job!)
